Frequently Asked Questions

Most people qualify for Medicare once they reach 65 years of age. Younger people with a qualifying disability, End Stage Renal Disease, or ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) may also qualify. In most cases you can first enroll in Medicare three months before the month of your 65th birthday.

When you first qualify for Medicare you’ll be eligible to enroll in all plan types during this period and you cannot be denied or charged more for coverage. You’ll also be able to enroll in the Medicare Advantage plan or Medicare Part D plan of your choice during the Annual Election Period each year.
However, you can be denied coverage for a Medigap plan if you don’t enroll during your six-month initial enrollment period. If you do get accepted for coverage you may have to undergo a medical exam and could be charged a higher plan premium if you are considered a higher risk due to your health.

The Medicare Advantage & Prescription Drug Plan Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) opens on October 15th and closes on December 7th. During this time you can make changes to your Medicare coverage. You new coverage choices go into effect on January 1st.

During the Medicare Advantage & Prescription Drug Plan Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), you’ll be able to make changes to existing Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D plans. This means that you can keep, change or drop plans. We recommend that you compare quotes for multiple plans in your area to ensure that you enroll in the plan that fits your needs and budget.
